Abstract
DIFFERENTIATION OF LOW DOSE OF INTRATHECAL HYPERBARIC BUPIVACAINE AND EPIDURAL LIDOCAINE IN CESAREAN SECTIONS

Introduction: In most of the surgical procedures use of anesthetics is always recommended for relieving the worsened pain suffering of the patient. Likewise cesarean section in pregnant women also comes under surgical procedure which often may require use of anesthetics. Local and general anesthetics, both types of anesthetics are randomly used in cases of cesarean section. It is believed that share of spinal anesthesia with epidural anesthesia are known to show more advantages over administration of general anesthetics alone. Aims and Objectives: To assess the therapeutic approach in cesarean section patients. To assess the indication and use of anesthetics in obstetrics and gynecology departments. To evaluate the side effects and therapeutic outcomes of low dose intrathecal hyperbaric Bupivaciane and epidural Lidocaine in patients operated for cesarean section. Materials and Methods: Present study was carried out in RVS Multi-Specialty Hospitals, RVS Nagar, Chittoor District, Andhra Pradesh for a period of 3 months especially in the department of obstetrics and gynecology after getting approval from the Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) for carrying the study in the respective hospital. Results and Discussion: In overall population of 40 in each group leading to 80 as study population including both the groups, in group A side effects like nausea and vomiting were similar to the rate of incidence in group B. Shivering was also of same in incidence in both the groups with 10% as its incidence rate. Dyspnea was not reported in both the groups. Use of vaccum or forceps was indicted in 5 cases with 12.5% of group A patients and was indicated in group B patients. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the efficacy and outcomes of both eth groups are almost similar in both incidences, and the side effects were are of same in frequency in both the cases. Thus, the decision for choosing anesthetics in case of cesarean section is recommended to be taken by the attending anesthesiologist based on the clinical condition of the patient.
