Abstract
PSYCHIATRIC DISORDERS IN ADOLESCENT SUICIDE ATTEMPTERS AND THEIR PSYCHOSOCIAL RELATION

To study the psychosocial factors associated with adolescent suicide attempts and identify the risk factors and their association with adolescent suicide attempt with reference to psychosocial factors and psychiatric morbidity. Materials and Methods:30 cases of adolescent suicide attempters admitted in RVS General Hospital, Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh were recruited in the study and evaluation was done using socio demographic proforma, ICD-10 to arrive at a psychiatric diagnosis and Hamilton Depression Rating scale to evaluate the level of depression. Results: The results of the study indicated that two-thirds of the patients were diagnosed with psychiatric disorders at the time of admission. However, no association was noted between suicide intent and sociodemographics except for their domiciliary status.Conclusion: Persons experiencing higher rates of cumulative stressful life events and significant life events should be monitored closely for the behavior. Besides, psychiatric morbidity should be taken into consideration when managing these groups of patients
